Summer 2026: The Events Set to Disrupt Corporate Travel and Accommodation

The summer of 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most complex demand environments corporate travel managers have ever had to navigate.

In the space of roughly 14 weeks, between June and September, eight major events will simultaneously constrain accommodation supply across North America and Europe.

Here's a quick-reference guide to what's coming and how to plan around it.

FIFA World Cup (June 11 – July 19 | USA, Canada, Mexico)

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is undeniably the biggest demand event of the year.

Host cities include New York, LA, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Kansas City, Houston, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Toronto, Guadalajara, and Mexico City.

Major airports (LAX, JFK, O'Hare, MIA, YYZ) will experience significant congestion throughout.

Accommodation availability will be tight 48 hours either side of each fixture, not just on match day. Corporate rate agreements with major chains may be suspended in host cities. Consider Midwest routing alternatives (Indianapolis, Columbus, Pittsburgh) if business travel doesn't require host city presence.

French Open / Roland Garros (May 24 – June 7 | Paris)

Hotels within 5 Km of Roland Garros will reach 95%+ occupancy. Book alternative arrondissements (7th, 15th) or consider Versailles for travellers with flexible schedules.

Wimbledon (June 29 – July 12 | London)

Southwest London (SW19, SW15, SW17) and Richmond will be severely constrained. City of London, Canary Wharf, and East London remain viable. Factor Central line journey times into itineraries.

Commonwealth Games (July 23 – August 2 | Glasgow)

Glasgow hotels will reach capacity. Edinburgh (50 minutes by train) is the primary overflow city. Pre-book ScotRail connections, as reservations will quickly sell out.

Total Solar Eclipse (August 12 | Southern Spain)

A rare total solar eclipse crossing Andalusia and the Balearics will drive significant leisure demand through Seville, Córdoba, Málaga, and Mallorca. Business travel to Spain in the week of 10–15 August should be booked early and budgeted accordingly.

US Open Tennis (August 23 – September 13 | New York)

Queens/Flushing and surrounding areas will be heavily constrained. Midtown and Downtown Manhattan will accommodate the extra demand at a premium. Consider Newark Liberty International (EWR) or LaGuardia (LGA) as alternatives to John F. Kennedy International (JFK) airport.

Major Events Are Reshaping Corporate Accommodation Dynamics

While each event creates its own demand spike, the broader trend is what matters most for corporate travel and mobility programmes. As major sporting events, cultural moments, and large-scale gatherings absorb hotel capacity, accommodation supply becomes increasingly fragmented, lead times compress, and pricing volatility intensifies across entire destination markets.

Serviced apartments, extended-stay hotels, and alternative accommodation solutions are increasingly providing the stability, availability, and value that corporate programmes require during periods of peak demand.
